PEP! Camp

Steve and his children come out to help us all learn to love, or at least tolerate our reptile friends!
The last two weeks of June were perhaps some of the best weeks I've had volunteering in a long time. I haven't talked about it here before, but I'm currently interning with a local nonprofit called the Pet Education Project (PEP!) Part of my interning for a couple of weeks involved being a councilor and organizer for the yearly kid's summer camp! I've never had so much fun conquering fears and educating kids.

We spent the two sessions of camp with some amazing #animalheros learning all about the 5 components of pet care: Food, Water, Shelter, Care, and Love. Each day of each session we dedicated to learning about proper pet nutrition, shelters, toys, microchipping, spay/neuter, heartworm prevention and treatment, being your pet's best friend, and being an #animalhero! I was amazed at how well the elementary aged children grasped the concepts and related them to their own life. I'm so proud to have been a part of this amazing experience!

Is it next June yet?! I'm ready for more #PEPCamp!

One of our (Magic Happen's Rabbit Rescue NWLA) buns, Caddo, put's on a show for Care Day!
Learning about Spay/Neuter gets fun with this game the PEP! volunteers and board developed!
Keith and I conquer our fears of snakes with the help of a sweet, talkative camper.

The younger ladies of the first week help build the perfect rabbit home.
Even the younger girls and Dudley the dog love to learn about Spay/Neuter!
The ferrets even came all the way from NYC to play!

If you'd like to see more pictures or get more information visit the PEP! Page on Facebook and/or visit ilovepep.org!

What's the most fun you've ever had volunteering for a worthy cause? What would you do if you were hosting/creating a camp for kids?
